Now With Pictures

excellent, evocative post, jason. the guided meditation put me in a wonderful state of mind. but i must offer a corrective. i did not “absolutely love every minute” of the “musical performance of someone rolling around trash in a ceramic pot.” believe it or not, i found little to enjoy there. however, after you’d gone outside to have your alone time, he began rolling a ball bearing around in a sauce pan lid. now THAT was bomb-shiz.

america, let’s get real for a second. it’s one in the afternoon, so still pretty early in the berlin morning. i’m sitting at the kitchen table of our 5th floor sublet typing away, enjoying a cup of stovetop espresso and looking out the window at the kastanienbaums, or chestnut trees. an hour ago, as i slowly shook sleep’s death-grip from my soul, my mind was already thinking about this blog and its responsibilities to you, our readers. i thought about how there has been a lot of text. a lot of it. but text, as we all know, is really boring. you need some sights and sounds to titillate your senses. here is me thinking about all of this, weighing my response:

here is a tight-rope walker traversing the two towers of the wwii bunker at volkspark humboldthain:

yes, we were there. it was so exciting. on this bunker. overlooking the city! which does not have, actually, a memorable skyline. but. also, it was boring, cause we waited around for like 6 hours while they got ready before anyone actually crossed the rope. safety schmafety. it was well worth it, though, to bring this exciting experience to america in pictorial form. we wished bryce were with us so he could explain the history of the bunker.

trash, as you may have noticed, has been on our minds. a few days ago Jamiroquai Jones asked us to think about trash–he was to make a radio spot for the upcoming Trashmusikfest or some such thing and invited us to join him. so we thought about it. we licked the verboten trash, metaphorically. then we went over to his house with some beers, lit some funny-smelling incense, and had a real ‘rap session’ (in the hippie sense) about the subject. it was heady. it was intense. Jamiroquai Jones recorded some funky-fresh beats on his new electronic drum set, christened Jean-Paul. then we made this:

a deep investigation into the place of trash in contemporary aesthetics.

one last thing. we googled the title of our blog, “lick the verboten,” and nothing came up. since it’s not on google, we can only assume that NOONE ANYWHERE has EVER said it before. we are so proud of having coined this phrase that we trademarked it.

I’m glad you put that hidden track on your song. Ian, send me some recordings to do stuff with. Make Aaron send me some recordings of his new drum set too.

I am going to stop reading your posts if you cannot figure out how to capitalize “I” and the first letter of the first word in a sentence.

    Otherwise, very enjoyable.

i’m taking a stand, brendan, over the unnecessary, antiquated overuse of capitalized letters, and i’m prepared to lose a reader over this. go ahead, filter my posts out of your RSS feed. i dare ya.
